Neighborhoods of Choice Chooses North Nelson
Congratulations, residents of North Nelson Neighborhood! Our neighborhood has been chosen by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation as the site of a neighborhood revitalization program called Neighborhoods of Choice.

That means we'll be seeing a lot of big changes in our neighborhood over the coming months—and residents have the chance to get involved in them as well.

Neighborhoods of Choice is a program designed to help residents make their neighborhood a better place to live, work, invest and play.

North Nelson Neighborhood was chosen as one of only three sites in the state for this program because of its appeal to homeowners of all kinds.

We’re forming committees of residents and volunteers to concentrate on four different areas of neighborhood revitalization and hope you'll be interested in joining one.

Housing Rehab Grant Available for Residents
Homeowners in North Nelson Neighborhood are eligible for a grant of up to $14,000 to rehabilitate their homes.

In March, Neighborhood Investment Corporation will start a new round of Neighborhood Impact Program (NIP) funding.

The NIP matches a homeowner’s funds on a three to one basis. For instance, if you have $1000 saved to buy some new windows, the NIP can match that with another $3000 and you can get your house painted too!

A new addition to the program this year is that you can take out a Property Improvement Loan at Neighborhood Investment to cover your portion of the match. That means that if you want to do a $19,000 job, you can borrow $4750 and get a grant for the other $14,000.
